Hearts on Fire: The Spirit and the Word

“Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32, NASB)

The two disciples on the road to Emmaus had just encountered the risen Yeshua. They didn’t recognize Him at first, but as He walked with them and opened the Scriptures, something deeper stirred—their hearts burned. Not from manipulated sentiment or hyped theatrics, but from divine revelation breaking through veils of sorrow and confusion. This burning was not a fleeting feeling; it was the ignition of truth meeting the Spirit within.

Beloved, this is how God works. God does not play with our emotions. He doesn’t stage artificial atmospheres to provoke momentary sentiment. He is not in the business of entertaining souls, but of transforming them. His Spirit and His Word always work in unity, and when they touch a willing heart, the result is conviction, awakening, and worship.

There is a troubling trend in our generation: many are drawn to religious environments where emotionalism replaces anointed preaching, and psychological techniques masquerade as spiritual encounters. But let us be discerning. Emotions are not evidence of truth—they are merely responses. When the Spirit of God moves, emotions may rise, but they are the byproduct, not the proof. The Psalmist cried, “The entrance of Your words gives light” (Psalm 119:130, AMP). Light does not need to stir a tear to prove it has entered—it simply reveals.

The apostle Paul warned of a time when people would “accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires” (2 Timothy 4:3, NASB). In such times, truth is replaced with experience, and conviction is replaced with sensation. But true revival never begins with a tear—it begins with truth and repentance. “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17, NASB). Where the Word is rightly preached and the Spirit is welcomed, there will always be transformation.

To be clear, God is not against our emotions. He created them. But they are not the foundation of our faith—they are its fragrance. When Peter heard the voice of the Father declare Yeshua’s Sonship on the Mount of Transfiguration, he later wrote, “We have the prophetic word made more sure” (2 Peter 1:19, NASB). Peter valued the Word above the experience. This is the true order of the Kingdom: the Word gives the foundation, the Spirit brings life, and emotion flows as a holy response.

We must ask ourselves: What burns within us? Is it truth igniting holy passion? Or is it the flicker of manipulated feeling soon to die out when the music fades? The early Church burned with a fire not fed by smoke machines or stirring choruses, but by the Word made flesh, crucified, risen, and soon returning. Their message pierced hearts, not by volume or rhythm, but by Spirit and truth. “For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12, NASB).

There is a deep need in the Body today to return to that Emmaus road—to walk with Yeshua again, to listen as He opens the Scriptures, to allow the fire of truth to burn away the dross of shallow religion. The Church does not need another show; it needs another awakening. It is time to build altars, not stages. It is time to host His presence, not emotions.

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NASB). But only if we receive it. Only if we linger long enough to let the Spirit breathe on it. Only if we resist the temptation to replace depth with entertainment. Beloved, God wants your heart, not just your tears. He desires truth in the inward parts (Psalm 51:6), and He sends His Spirit to seal it within us.

So today, let us pray not for a passing feeling, but for a fire that remains. Let us seek not to be stirred but to be changed. Let our hearts burn again—not because a preacher moved us, but because God spoke.

A Prayer for the Burning Heart

Father, we come not to be entertained but to be transformed. Let Your Word burn within us again. Let Your Spirit open our eyes to truth, convict our hearts, and renew our minds. Strip away every counterfeit emotion, every religious pretense, and every shallow substitute for Your presence. Ignite a holy fire in us—not for performance, but for purity. We want to walk with You, listen to You, and burn with love for You. Give us a heart that trembles at Your Word and rejoices in Your truth. Let our worship rise not from manipulated tears, but from a heart set ablaze by revelation. In the name of Yeshua, amen.

A Sound, Then a Voice, Then a Word

Hearing the Spirit Speak is central to our faith journey.

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].” — Psalm 91:1 (AMP)

Beloved, you who are called by the name of Yeshua, come now and sit still before the Lord. Set aside the frantic pace of the world and every noise that would crowd your soul. Draw near. For it is in stillness, in the secret place, that God speaks and we engage in hearing the Spirit speak.

In the beginning, God walked in the garden in the cool of the day, and man heard a sound—a Presence moving among the trees. Even now, when you quiet your soul before Him, the Spirit comes near, and the first sign is often this: a sound. Not yet a word. Not yet a revelation. But something holy draws near, and your heart begins to burn.

This is the path of hearing the Spirit speak.

First, the rustling Presence, like wind through leaves or the gentle stirring of water. Then, as your spirit grows still and attentive, you begin to discern a voice—not audible, but unmistakable. The Holy Spirit speaks not to your ears, but to your inner man. At first, it is vague, a whisper barely formed. But you press in.

You open the Scriptures.

And then comes the miracle: the Word. Not ink on a page, but fire to your bones. What was once a verse becomes a personal Word—warm, clear, intimate. The breath of God fills it. It pierces, it comforts, it reveals the Son. The Spirit illuminates, and the Word becomes life.

This is not a formula, dear one. This is fellowship. The Spirit of God draws near to those who draw near to Him. He longs to lead you not just to knowledge, but to intimacy. Not just to discipline, but to delight. And the pathway begins with a choice—to be still.

John, the beloved, once leaned upon Yeshua’s chest and heard the heartbeat of God. He wrote, “You have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth… the anointing which you received from Him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things…” (1 John 2:20, 27, NASB). The same Spirit that taught John now lives in you. Embrace hearing the Spirit speak within you.

So do not rush past the sound. Do not fear the silence. God is near.

He speaks still.

But will you listen?

Will you let the Spirit turn sounds into voice, and voice into Word?

Will you allow the Word to turn your heart toward the Lamb of God again?

You are not just invited into truth—you are invited into fellowship with the Truth Himself.And every time you enter that secret place with an open Bible and a yielded heart, heaven leans in.

“Behold, I stand at the door and continually knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.” — Revelation 3:20 (AMP)

So today, beloved, turn down every other voice. Open the door. Embrace the sound, the voice, and the Word. Through hearing the Spirit speak, the Word will become flesh again in your life, and with it, life and light and rest.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I wait on You now. Still my thoughts, quiet my soul. Let me hear the sound of Your nearness. Let me recognize Your voice. Illuminate Your Word to me today until it becomes life and light. Let me see and embrace Yeshua more clearly, more dearly. Let my fellowship with Him be unbroken and full of joy. Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Living the Word

Beloved, as I have walked with our Lord and have borne witness to His divine teachings, let us reflect deeply upon the enduring Word of God and the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Lord spoke through Moses, as recorded in Deuteronomy 18:18, promising that He would raise up a Prophet like unto Moses, putting His words into His mouth. Christ, the fulfillment of this prophecy, taught with authority that astonished all, as echoed throughout the Gospels and by those who heard Him speak.

Our Lord’s words, like a sharp sword, as Isaiah 49:2 describes, cut to the heart of matters, revealing truths hidden from the foundation of the world. He spoke of building one’s life on the solid rock of His teachings, as in Matthew 7:24, where He likened those who heed His words to a wise man who built his house upon the rock. His words shall not pass away, as He assured us in Matthew 24:35, for they are the spirit and life, as He declared in John 6:63.

Jesus, in His wisdom, addressed the hearts of men, calling them to look beyond the surface as in Luke 11:39, where He admonished the Pharisees for their outward cleanliness but inner corruption. His teachings often confounded the wise and learned, leaving them marveled and unable to trap Him in His words, as seen in Luke 20:26.

He spoke of love, of unity, and of the indwelling of His words in our hearts, as encouraged in Colossians 3:16, urging us to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly. In His high priestly prayer, as recorded in John 17, He asked not only for those present with Him but for all who would believe, emphasizing the transformative power of His word.

The Word was not only spoken but demonstrated through His actions and miracles, proving His divine authority and fulfilling the words spoken by the prophets, as affirmed in Acts 3:22 and echoed in Hebrews 1:2, where God has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son.

Therefore, my dear children, let us hold fast to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, for His words are life to those who find them. Let us dig deeply into the scriptures, for in them we find Christ, and through His words, we learn to live in the truth He has given us. Embrace His teachings, meditate on them day and night, and let them guide your paths, for they are the very breath of life.
